Terms of Service
Effective date: July 27, 2026 Last updated: July 27, 2026
These Terms are a legal agreement between you and PostSocial, LLC, the operator of Russian Learning App. Please read them. They cover what you can expect from us, what we expect from you, how subscriptions and refunds work, and how disagreements get resolved.
The short version
This summary is for orientation only — the numbered sections below are what actually governs.
- You need an account to use the app, and you must be at least 13 (16 in the EEA and UK, unless a parent or guardian agrees).
- Some content is generated by AI and can be wrong. This is a learning app, not a professional translation service. Do not rely on it for anything that matters.
- Pro subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel any time and keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
- If you are in the EU or UK, you have a 14-day right to change your mind — with one exception, explained in Section 5.7, that applies if you ask us to start straight away.
- The dictionary data is open-licensed (CC BY-SA) and you may reuse it under that licence. The lessons, recordings, design, and code are ours.
- If we cannot resolve a dispute by email, you keep your full right to go to court. There is no arbitration clause and no class action waiver — Section 14 explains the process.
1. Agreement to these Terms
By creating an account, or by otherwise using russianlearning.app and the Russian Learning App web application (together, the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service (the "Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information and forms part of these Terms.
In these Terms, "we", "us", and "our" mean PostSocial, LLC; "you" and "your" mean the person using the Service.
2. Who may use the Service
2.1 Age requirements
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you must be at least 16, unless a parent or legal guardian consents to your use of the Service. Where your country sets the digital consent age below 16, that lower age applies instead.
By creating an account you represent that you meet the applicable age requirement. If we learn that an account belongs to someone who does not, we will close it and delete the associated data.
2.2 Capacity and authority
You must be able to form a binding contract. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.
2.3 Location and sanctions
The Service is operated from the United States and is available worldwide, but we make no representation that it is appropriate or lawful in every location. You are responsible for complying with your own local laws.
You may not use the Service if you are located in, ordinarily resident in, or organised under the laws of a country or region subject to comprehensive US sanctions, or if you appear on any US government restricted-party list.
3. Your account
3.1 Creating an account
You can create an account with an email address and password, or by signing in with Google. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep your email address current, because that is how we reach you about your account, your subscription, and any security issue.
3.2 Keeping your account secure
You are responsible for everything that happens under your account. Keep your password confidential, do not reuse it on other sites, and do not share your account. Tell us immediately at support@russianlearning.app if you suspect unauthorised access.
3.3 One account per person
Accounts are personal. Do not create multiple accounts to obtain additional free trials or to get around a limit or a suspension.
3.4 Closing your account
You may close your account at any time by emailing support@russianlearning.app from your account address, or by using the in-app deletion control if one is available in your version. Closing your account deletes your learning data as described in the Privacy Policy. Closing your account does not automatically cancel a paid subscription or entitle you to a refund — cancel the subscription first, as described in Section 5.5.
4. The Service — what it is and what it is not
4.1 What we provide
The Service teaches Russian to English speakers through lessons, an alphabet trainer, a dictionary, pronunciation audio, a translation tool, speech practice, and photo translation. We provide it on an "as available" basis and we develop it continuously.
4.2 This is a learning tool, not a professional translation service
Translations, transliterations, pronunciation guidance, and photo translations are provided for language-learning purposes only. They are not certified, professional, legal, medical, or official translations.
Do not rely on the Service for medical instructions, legal documents, safety information, emergency communication, contracts, immigration or visa paperwork, financial decisions, or anything else where an error could cause harm or loss. For those, use a qualified human translator.
4.3 AI-generated content can be wrong
Several features are powered by third-party artificial intelligence models. AI output is probabilistic. It can be inaccurate, incomplete, contextually wrong, oddly phrased, or entirely fabricated, and it can misread a photograph or mishear a recording.
We work to improve accuracy — our dictionary layer answers before the AI does wherever it can, and a native Russian speaker reviews and corrects pronunciation — but we do not warrant that any output is accurate. Where a native speaker has verified a value, that verified value takes precedence over anything a model produces. Please treat AI output as a helpful draft, not as an authority.
4.4 Changes to the Service
We may add, change, or remove features. If we discontinue a feature that is material to a paid subscription you are currently in, we will give you at least 30 days' notice by email and, if you ask within 30 days of that notice, refund the unused portion of your current billing period on a pro-rata basis.
4.5 Availability
We aim to keep the Service running but we do not promise uninterrupted availability. It may be unavailable for maintenance, updates, or reasons outside our control, including failures at our hosting, database, payment, or AI providers. We offer no uptime commitment or service credits.
4.6 Your own equipment and costs
You need a compatible device and an internet connection. Data charges, hardware, and software are your responsibility.
5. Plans, payment, trials, and cancellation
The paid Pro plan may not be live at the date these Terms take effect. These provisions govern from the moment paid plans launch and apply to every subscription you start.
5.1 Free and paid plans
The Service is a single product with a single feature set. New accounts start with a free trial of the full app (Section 5.2); continuing past the trial requires a paid Pro subscription, billed monthly or yearly. Current prices are shown on our pricing page and in the app at the point of purchase. Section 5.4 covers price changes.
5.2 Free trial
New accounts include a free trial of the full app.
- The trial's length and terms are stated when you start it.
- Starting a trial requires no payment method. You create an account and use the full app; nothing is charged during the trial.
- A trial never converts into a charge. When your trial ends, your access to the app pauses and we show you a subscription screen. You are charged only if and when you choose to subscribe.
- Your account, learning progress, streaks, and saved items are kept while your access is paused, and are all there when you subscribe.
- One trial per person. We may refuse or withdraw a trial if we reasonably believe you are trying to obtain more than one, including by creating additional accounts.
- There is nothing to cancel during a trial. If you decide not to subscribe, simply stop using the Service — you will never be charged.
5.3 Automatic renewal — please read this
Pro subscriptions renew automatically.
- When you subscribe, you authorise us and our payment processor to charge your payment method on a recurring basis — every month for a monthly plan, every year for an annual plan — at the then-current price, plus applicable taxes.
- Renewal continues until you cancel. There is no fixed end date.
- We charge on or shortly after the renewal date. If we cannot take payment, Section 5.9 applies.
- For annual plans, and wherever the law requires it, we will email you a renewal reminder at least 15 and no more than 45 days before the renewal date, stating the renewal date, the amount, and how to cancel.
- You can cancel at any time, including immediately after subscribing, using the method in Section 5.5. Cancelling is at least as easy as subscribing — no phone call, no retention interview.
Your specific plan, price, billing interval, and renewal date are shown in Profile → Subscription, and are confirmed in the email we send you when you subscribe.
5.4 Prices, taxes, and currency
- Prices are shown before you buy and are exclusive of tax unless stated otherwise. You are responsible for applicable taxes, including VAT, GST, and US sales tax, which are calculated and added at checkout where required.
- Prices are charged in the currency shown at checkout. Your bank or card issuer may add foreign-exchange or international fees; those are between you and them.
- We may change prices. A change never affects the period you have already paid for. We will give you at least 30 days' notice by email before a new price applies to a renewal, and the notice will tell you how to cancel if you do not want to continue. Continuing past the renewal date means you accept the new price.
5.5 How to cancel
Cancel in Profile → Subscription → Manage billing, which opens the billing portal, or by emailing support@russianlearning.app from your account address with the word "cancel". Email cancellations are effective from the date we receive them, not from when we reply.
When you cancel:
- Cancellation stops the next renewal charge.
- You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. After that, your access pauses until you subscribe again.
- Your account, learning progress, streaks, and saved items remain. Cancelling a subscription does not delete your account.
- We do not pro-rate a partial period on cancellation, except where Section 5.6 or 5.7 applies or the law requires otherwise.
5.6 Refunds
- Subscription fees are generally non-refundable, including for partial billing periods and for periods during which you did not use the Service. The free trial exists so you can evaluate the Service before paying.
- Statutory rights come first. Nothing here limits a refund right you have under the law of your country, including the EU/UK withdrawal right in Section 5.7 and consumer-guarantee rights in jurisdictions such as Australia.
- We will refund a duplicate charge, a charge taken after a valid cancellation, a charge caused by our billing error, or a period during which the Service was substantially unavailable because of a fault on our side.
- Discretionary refunds. We are a small operation and we would rather have a fair outcome than a rule fight. If you are unhappy, email support@russianlearning.app within 30 days of the charge and tell us why. We consider these individually. Granting one refund does not oblige us to grant another.
- Approved refunds go back to the original payment method, usually within 5–10 business days depending on your bank.
5.7 Right of withdrawal — EU, EEA, and UK consumers
If you are a consumer in the EU, EEA, or UK, you normally have 14 days from entering into the contract to withdraw from it without giving a reason, under the Consumer Rights Directive and the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations.
How this applies to digital content and services delivered immediately:
When you subscribe, you are asked to confirm two things before the purchase completes:
- that you want us to begin providing the Service immediately, within the 14-day withdrawal period; and
- that you acknowledge you will lose your right of withdrawal once the Service has been fully performed, and that where it is only partly performed you will owe a proportionate amount for what you received.
If you gave that confirmation and then withdraw within 14 days, we will refund what you paid less a proportionate amount for the period you had access. If you did not give that confirmation, or the Service had not started, you receive a full refund.
To withdraw, email support@russianlearning.app within 14 days with a clear statement that you are withdrawing. You may use this model form, though you do not have to:
To PostSocial, LLC, support@russianlearning.app: I hereby give notice that I withdraw from my contract for the supply of the Russian Learning App Pro subscription. Ordered on [date]. Name: [your name]. Account email: [your email]. Date: [date].
We will process the refund without undue delay and within 14 days of receiving your notice, using the same payment method you used.
Note that the free trial in Section 5.2 gives you the practical benefit of this right in advance: you can evaluate the full app before any charge is made.
5.8 Payments are processed by Stripe
Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. You enter your card details on Stripe's own interface, and your payment is subject to Stripe's terms and privacy policy in addition to these Terms. We never receive or store your full card number, CVC, or bank details.
You represent that you are authorised to use the payment method you provide.
5.9 Failed payments and chargebacks
If a renewal payment fails, Stripe will retry it over a short period and we will email you. If payment still fails, your access pauses without further notice. Your learning data is not deleted. You can restore access at any time by updating your payment method.
If you dispute a charge with your bank rather than contacting us first, we may suspend the account while the dispute is investigated. Please email us first — most disputes are a billing question we can resolve the same day.
6. Your content
6.1 What "your content" means
"Your content" is anything you submit to or create in the Service: text you type into Translate, audio you record, photos you submit or save, saved words and phrases, your display name, username, and profile picture, and anything you send us in support email.
6.2 You keep ownership
You keep all rights you have in your content. We do not claim ownership of it.
6.3 The licence you give us
You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, transmit, display, adapt, and process your content solely to operate and provide the Service to you, and to have our service providers (listed in the Privacy Policy) do the same on our behalf. This licence exists so we can legally show your saved items back to you, send your text to our AI provider to translate it, and store your saved photos. It ends when you delete the content or your account, except as described in Section 6.4 and except for backups that expire on their normal schedule.
This licence does not let us publish your content, use it in marketing, sell it, or use it to train AI models.
6.4 Cached translations and audio
To keep the Service fast and affordable, translations and pronunciation audio are stored in shared caches and reused for anyone who later submits the same phrase. Cache entries carry no link to your account. You grant us a perpetual licence to retain and reuse cached entries in this de-identified form. The Privacy Policy, Section 5.4, explains this fully.
Please do not submit confidential or sensitive information into the translation, speech, or photo features. Because cache entries are de-identified, we generally cannot find and remove one on request.
6.5 Your responsibility for what you submit
You represent that you have the right to submit your content and that doing so does not infringe anyone's rights or break any law. Do not photograph other people's private documents, do not submit content you do not have permission to use, and be mindful that photographing people in some countries requires their consent.
6.6 Saved photos are stored in public-read storage
Photos you save from photo translation are stored at an address that is hard to guess but not authenticated — anyone holding the direct link can view the file. Do not save photographs of identity documents, financial records, medical information, or other people who have not agreed to it. Privacy Policy Section 5.3 gives the full detail, including our plans to change this.
7. Acceptable use
Use the Service to learn Russian. Do not:
- break any law, or infringe anyone's intellectual property, privacy, or other rights;
- submit content that is unlawful, that sexualises minors, that harasses or threatens someone, or that you know to be another person's private information;
- scrape, crawl, bulk-download, or systematically extract the Service's content, including through the translation, dictionary, or pronunciation endpoints. Section 8.2 describes the lawful way to obtain the open-licensed dictionary data;
- use the Service as a general-purpose translation or text-to-speech backend for another product, or resell access to it;
- automate access using bots or scripts, or use the Service other than through the interface we provide;
- circumvent rate limits, usage limits, paywalls, or access controls, including by creating multiple accounts;
- attempt to discover, extract, or misuse our API keys or credentials;
- probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service, or breach its security or authentication measures, except under a written authorisation from us;
- interfere with the Service or place unreasonable load on it, including denial-of-service attempts;
- reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Service, except where that restriction is unenforceable under applicable law;
- misrepresent your affiliation with us, or impersonate anyone; or
- use AI output from the Service to build a competing dataset or to train a machine-learning model.
Reporting a security issue. If you find a vulnerability, please report it to support@russianlearning.app rather than exploiting or publicising it. We will not pursue legal action over good-faith research that is promptly and privately reported, that does not access or modify other users' data, and that does not degrade the Service.
8. Intellectual property
8.1 What we own
Apart from the open-licensed material in Section 8.2 and your content under Section 6, the Service and everything in it is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. That includes the lessons, curriculum, exercises, example sentences, learner glosses, pronunciation respellings, native-speaker pronunciation corrections and recordings, the visual design, the software, and the Russian Learning App name and logo.
We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the Service for your own language learning. All other rights are reserved. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, or create derivative works from any part of the Service except as these Terms or an open licence permits.
8.2 Open-licensed dictionary data — attribution and licence
Part of our lexical data derives from openly licensed sources. We take that seriously, and we do not claim it as proprietary.
The dictionary and lexical layer — headwords, stress marks, parts of speech, inflected forms, grammatical features, glosses, and frequency data — derives in whole or in part from:
| Source | Licence |
|---|---|
| OpenRussian (Badestrand/russian-dictionary) | Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 (CC BY-SA 4.0) |
Because that source is share-alike, the lexical data we distribute that is derived from it is made available to you under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/). You may copy, redistribute, and adapt it, including commercially, provided you give appropriate credit and license your adaptations under the same terms.
A small number of dictionary entries do not come from that source and are therefore not offered under CC BY-SA: entries generated by AI while translating text you submitted, and entries written or corrected by our native speaker. Each lexical record in our system carries its own source and licence, and we will provide the provenance for any specific entry on request to support@russianlearning.app.
What is not covered by CC BY-SA, and remains proprietary to us: the lessons and curriculum, the sequencing and pedagogy, exercises, our written explanations and learner-facing copy, the native speaker's pronunciation corrections and recordings, generated pronunciation audio, the visual design, and the software.
If you believe we have failed to attribute a source properly, tell us at support@russianlearning.app and we will correct it.
8.3 Third-party open-source software
The Service includes third-party open-source components, each governed by its own licence, which prevails over these Terms for that component. We will supply a list of components and licences on request.
8.4 Feedback
If you send us ideas, suggestions, or feedback, you grant us an unrestricted, perpetual, royalty-free right to use them without obligation or compensation to you. Please do not send us anything you consider confidential.
9. Copyright complaints
If you believe material on the Service infringes your copyright, send a notice to support@russianlearning.app with the subject line "DMCA Notice", including:
- your physical or electronic signature;
- identification of the copyrighted work you say is infringed;
- identification of the material you say is infringing, with enough detail for us to locate it (a URL is best);
- your address, telephone number, and email address;
- a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and
- a statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on their behalf.
We will respond in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, including by removing material where appropriate and by terminating the accounts of repeat infringers. If you believe your material was removed in error, you may send a counter-notice with the same contact details.
10. Suspension and termination
10.1 By you
You may stop using the Service at any time. Sections 3.4 and 5.5 explain closing your account and cancelling a subscription.
10.2 By us
We may suspend or terminate your access if:
- you materially breach these Terms, including the acceptable-use rules in Section 7;
- your use creates a legal risk or a security risk for us or other users;
- payment for a paid plan fails and is not resolved (though our normal response is a downgrade to Free, per Section 5.9); or
- we are required to by law.
Where it is reasonable to do so, we will warn you first and give you a chance to fix the problem. For serious breaches — security attacks, illegal content, fraud — we may act immediately.
10.3 What happens on termination
- If we terminate you without cause, or you terminate because we materially breached these Terms, we will refund the unused portion of your current paid period.
- If we terminate you for a breach of these Terms, no refund is due.
- Your learning data is handled as set out in the Privacy Policy. You may request an export before your account is deleted.
- Sections 6.4, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 17 survive termination.
11. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express, implied, or statutory, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement.
Without limiting that, we do not warrant that:
- translations, transliterations, pronunciation, transcriptions, or photo translations are accurate, complete, or fit for any purpose;
- the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free;
- defects will be corrected; or
- the Service will meet your learning goals or produce any particular result. Language learning depends on your own effort and consistency, and we make no promise of fluency or proficiency.
Consumer rights. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any right you have as a consumer that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, EU consumer law, and the Australian Consumer Law. Where such rights apply, the disclaimers above apply only to the extent permitted.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
12.1 We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, lost goodwill, or business interruption, arising out of or relating to the Service, even if we were advised of the possibility.
12.2 Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service, for all claims combined, will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) one hundred US dollars (US$100).
12.3 We are not liable for any loss arising from your reliance on a translation or other AI output, in the circumstances described in Sections 4.2 and 4.3.
12.4 These limits do not apply to liability that cannot be excluded by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or, where you are a consumer, liability that consumer law does not permit us to limit.
12.5 You acknowledge that these limits are a fundamental part of the bargain, and that the price of the Service reflects them.
13. Indemnity
If you are using the Service for business purposes, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless PostSocial, LLC from any claim, liability, damage, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your content, your use of the Service, or your breach of these Terms or of any law.
This section does not apply to consumers using the Service for personal purposes.
14. Resolving disputes
14.1 Talk to us first
Most problems are faster to fix by email. Before starting any formal proceeding, please email support@russianlearning.app describing the problem and what you want. We will try in good faith to resolve it within 60 days. This step is a condition of starting a lawsuit, and the limitation period is paused while it runs.
14.2 Consumers in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland
Nothing in these Terms requires you to arbitrate or waives any class action right. You may bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence, and the mandatory consumer-protection law of your country applies regardless of the governing law in Section 15. The European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform is at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
14.3 Time limit
Except where the law provides otherwise, any claim must be brought within one year of when it arose, or it is permanently barred. This does not apply to consumers where local law sets a longer mandatory period.
15. Governing law and venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, and applicable US federal law, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.
For any dispute not resolved under Section 14, the state and federal courts located in Florida have exclusive jurisdiction, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.
If you are a consumer, this section does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of your country of residence, nor of your right to bring proceedings in your local courts.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the Service changes or the law requires.
- For material changes — anything affecting your rights, your payment obligations, or dispute resolution — we will give you at least 30 days' notice by email to your account address and by notice in the app before the change takes effect.
- Non-material changes, such as corrections and clarifications, take effect when posted, with the "Last updated" date revised.
- Changes are not retroactive and do not apply to a dispute that arose before they took effect.
- If you do not accept a change, stop using the Service and cancel any subscription before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.
- A change to Section 14 (dispute resolution) never applies retroactively, and if you do not accept it you may reject that change by emailing us within 30 days, in which case the previous version of Section 14 continues to govern between us.
17. General terms
17.1 Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service, and replace any prior agreement or understanding on the subject.
17.2 Severability. If a provision is held unenforceable, it is modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or severed if it cannot be, and the rest remains in force.
17.3 No waiver. If we do not enforce a provision, that is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.
17.4 Assignment. You may not assign or transfer these Terms without our written consent. We may assign them to an affiliate or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, on notice to you.
17.5 No third-party beneficiaries. These Terms create no rights for anyone other than you and us.
17.6 Force majeure. Neither of us is liable for a failure to perform caused by events beyond reasonable control, including natural disasters, war, terrorism, civil unrest, government action, labour disputes, internet or utility failures, and failures of third-party providers on whom the Service depends.
17.7 Notices. We give notice by email to your account address, or by posting in the Service. You give notice by emailing support@russianlearning.app. Notice is effective when sent.
17.8 Independent contractors. Nothing in these Terms creates a partnership, joint venture, employment, or agency relationship.
17.9 Export control. You agree to comply with all applicable export and re-export control laws, including US Export Administration Regulations and sanctions programs.
17.10 Language. These Terms are written in English. Any translation is for convenience only; the English version governs to the extent permitted by law.
